About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Journal of Sustainable Equity and Social Research (JSESR) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published biannually with a rapid review process. When necessary, the journal may publish thematic special issues in addition to its regular two issues per year. JSESR accepts manuscripts in both Turkish and English.

JSESR aims to address an international and interdisciplinary readership and authorship with a strong focus on contemporary research. It welcomes original scholarly contributions from a wide range of social science disciplines, including anthropology, criminology, geography, history, political science, psychology, social policy, social work, sociology, and related fields.

Through a rigorous and high-quality double-blind peer-review process, JSESR seeks to provide both academic communities and wider audiences with innovative, critical, and timely research on issues related to equity, sustainability, and social justice. In this sense, the journal aspires to serve as a dynamic platform for scholarly debate and knowledge production in the social sciences.

JSESR publishes original scientific articles that have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere, that address a clearly defined research problem within a theoretical and/or methodological framework, and that make a substantive contribution to the existing literature. The journal follows an open-access policy, and the full texts of all published articles are freely available online.

Types of Manuscripts Accepted

Research Articles

Original scholarly studies grounded in a theoretical framework, addressing a clearly defined research problem, and presenting findings and discussions based on a specific methodology. For this type of submission, the total word count—including abstract, main text, and references—must not exceed 10,000 words. Research articles are published following a double-blind peer-review process.

Review Articles

Manuscripts that systematically present and critically evaluate existing knowledge within a specific field or topic. These articles identify a research problem, interpret the existing literature, and offer analytical insights, theoretical contributions, or methodological proposals.
The total word count—including abstract, main text, and references—must not exceed 8,000 words. Review articles are published following a double-blind peer-review process.

Opinion Papers

Manuscripts in which authors present well-argued perspectives on the strengths and weaknesses of a hypothesis, theory, or scholarly debate. These texts are based on constructive criticism and supported by evidence. Opinion papers reflect scholarly positions that challenge or re-evaluate dominant approaches or interpretations in a given field.
Opinion papers must not exceed 2,000 words and are accepted by invitation only. These manuscripts do not undergo peer review.

Letters to the Editor

Short texts that critically discuss, comment on, or respond to articles, arguments, or hypotheses previously published in the journal, or that address a current topic within the relevant literature. These submissions must be concise, focused, and intellectually engaging.
Letters to the Editor are limited to 1,000 words and do not undergo peer review.

Book Reviews

Book reviews aim to inform readers and researchers about newly published books by providing a critical and analytical evaluation. Reviews may be descriptive—presenting the content and scope of the book—or analytical—offering a critical assessment of the book’s arguments, theoretical contribution, and scholarly significance.

In critical reviews, the reviewer is expected to assess the author’s objectives, the extent to which these objectives are achieved, and the book’s academic quality and relevance to the field (Şişman, 2005).
Book reviews must be between 1,000 and 1,500 words and do not undergo peer review.
